My Lord,

With reference to Your Lordship's

8 confidential telegram of the 26th of May, 1930, on

the subject of the Salaries Commission, I have the

honour to confirm my confidential telegram of the

21st of June, 1930, reporting the passing by Legislative Council of a resolution voting $1,628,917

in order to give effect as from the 1st of January,

1930, to the Report of the Salaries Commission as

modified by Sir Cecil Clementi's despatch No. 37 of

the 22nd of January, 1930, to which Your Lordship's

5 telegram of the 25th of March gave general approval.

As stated in my latest telegram the

recommendations in question were further modified

in two respects. The High Cost of Living Allowance

of 15% on sterling salaries was, in view of the

present low rate of the dollar, abandoned temporarily

and an undertaking was given that this would not be

granted without further approval of the legislature.

2.

THE RIGHT HONOURABLE

LORD PASSFIELD,
